National Youth Justice Awareness Month

October is National Youth Justice Awareness month! The purpose of National Youth Justice Awareness Month is to raise awareness about the horrific consequence to youth, families, and communities that occur as a result of prosecuting minors as adults. The first 5K event was organized by the family of Jonathan McClard and held in Cape Girardeau, MO in October of 2008. Since then, these events have steadily grown and all have been successful in raising awareness of this issue.  In honor of these events during the 2011 legislative session, Rep. Chris Murphy from CT proposed to deem October as National Youth Justice Awareness Month.  This year over 20 states are participating with a total of 25 events in honor of National Youth Justice Awareness Month!!!
