National Parent Caucus
In July of 2009, The Campaign for Youth Justice (CFYJ) began the first National Parent Caucus (NPC) for families and their allies to bring a national voice to families of youth arrested, tried, and/or sentenced as adults. The National Parent Caucus (NPC) grew from a handful of families to nearly 200 families and allies representing over 30 states today!
The NPC works through a series of conference calls held throughout the year and occasional gatherings. Each call covers upcoming events where families and their allies can weigh in on the devastating consequences of being a youth in the adult system. The calls serve as ”mini-workshops” designed to bring ideas for transforming and reforming the systems that cripple our children for life through overly punitive laws and policies. Participants of the calls serve as support, technical advisors and teachers for each other while gathering people locally to build a movement to stop the practice of transfer (placing kids under the age of 18 in the adult criminal justice system).
We invite anyone who cares about the well-being of children involved or at risk of becoming involved in the juvenile or criminal justice system to join us on this call Families report feeling less alone, more knowledgeable, supported and empowered after joining the calls. We hope you will join us! maig
